Claire Doherty is Director of Situations and Senior Research Fellow in Fine Art at the University of the West of England. Situations is a research and commissioning programme dedicated to the investigation of broadening notions of context and place in contemporary art. Doherty leads the commissioning of off-site commissions, international lecture, events and publishing programme. Her curatorial projects have included 'Thinking of the Outside' with new works by Phil Collins, Nathan Coley, Susan Hiller, Silke Otto-Knapp and a new commission by Heather and Ivan Morison. She is editor of Contemporary Art: From Studio to Situation , Black Dog Publishing, 2004 and her recent publications include essays for monographic publications on Ergin Cavusoglu, Paul Rooney and 'Protections', Kunsthaus, Graz; 'Curating x 24', ed. Paul O'Neill, Amsterdam: De Appel; 'Art in the Public Realm', Arts Council of England, forthcoming. She has contributed to numerous exhibition catalogues and books and was curator at Ikon Gallery, Birmingham and Spike Island, Bristol and Associate Curator for FACT, Liverpool. In 2006, she will be the inaugural Curator-in-Residence at Massey University, New Zealand. |
